Each E-ROD crate engine system includes complete emissions equipment (including catalytic converters and an evaporative emissions canister), along with the engine controller and harness needed to get the system up and running. And thanks to an official CARB Executive Order*, the engine is also 50-state street legal for 1995 and older cars and trucks. It utilizes an aluminum block and heads, along with a composite intake manifold, to provide both performance and light weight. Like the original LS3†, the 6.2L LS3 E-ROD* makes 430 horsepower and 425 lb.-ft.
“That whole package is just dynamite for almost anything you’re building, any hot rod that you want to actually use,” Gerber said. The engine in the Silverado is mated to a 4L60-E four-speed automatic transmission. Gerber, who owns Roadster Shop with his brother Phil, has used the LS3 E-ROD package in many builds and he believes it stands out as being a “civilized” engine option that idles well and isn’t a monster, but still makes a lot of power. It’s all topped by a Holley air cleaner and the entire engine is painted white to match the exterior of the truck. Among the ways the Roadster Shop team did so was by utilizing Billet Specialties valve covers and some of the company’s Small-Block adapters to install a functional top-mount throttle body from Lokar Products.
